My Challenge: P90x

I didn’t want to turn the blog into a P90x promo site so I create this separate page.  This page is where I will post updates, stats and possibly before/after photos.  As you may already know, I started the P90x extreme home fitness program on December 20th, 2010.  I can honestly say that I’m blown away by the exercises, routines and all around workouts.  I’ve been working out in the gym for probably 16 years and have never done stuff that I’m now doing with P90x.  It’s truly exciting and I look forward to each workout.

Disclaimer: always consult a physician before starting a program like P90x.

Diabetes: Over the first 2 weeks using the program my blood sugars have been phenomenal!  I mean like crazy good even with lowering my basal rate an insane amount.  Now I’m getting in shape, losing weight, using less insulin, have higher insulin sensitivity and feeling great!

Bring it!

Before I started the program I took measurements of the following so I can compare and see where I end after 90 days.  I haven’t missed one workout in the first 14 days.  Not one.  This includes Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year’s Eve, etc.  My goal is to complete the 90 days in exactly 90 days.  You might say I’m dedicated.

Measurements – before/after (coming after 90 days)

  • Weight
  • Chest
  • Waist
  • Body Fat
  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Pull Ups*
  • Push Ups
  • Toe Touch
  • Wall Squat

* limited due to shoulder injury

I chose the Classic schedule (hardest outside of doing double sessions each day), which looks something like this:

  • Day 1 – Chest & Back \ Ab Ripper X
  • Day 2 – Plyometrics
  • Day 3 – Shoulders & Arms \ Ab Ripper X
  • Day 4 – Yoga X
  • Day 5 – Legs & Back \ Ab Ripper X
  • Day 6 – Kempo
  • Day 7 – X Stretch

One of the best parts of this program is you need little to no equipment.  I do have almost a full gym in my house, but most of it isn’t even needed.  I would recommend: yoga mat, yoga block, a few dumbbells and an open space about 8′x8′ with a TV and DVD player.  That’s it.

Favorite day: Kempo – a mixture of punching, kicking, stretching and blocking.  Basically it’s just fun.

Hardest day: Chest probably because you do a million push ups that beats up my shoulder.

Most Technical day: Yoga.  Never, ever, did Yoga before this program.  I LOVE the stretch it gives me.  I’m hooked.

Most Difficult: Ab Ripper X.  It’s ridiculously hard.  Hello, core work and abs.

Check back for updates!
