For a long time now I’ve talked about my gym and what helps keep me in shape. I’ve been hitting the exercising pretty hard the last few months and hope for my best ever A1c in April. The video below is a quick look into where I workout and the equipment I use, including TRX, Bosu, etc. It’s only a few minutes long and just highlights most of the equipment I use on a daily basis in my exercise room.

I hope you enjoyed the video. Let me know if there is anything you want to know more about or I can dive deeper into. Want to see anything in action, just let me know below.

P.S. I think I’m out of breath because I just finished my home PT routine. The Plyometrics workout was sick and my legs were crushed.

Depression is a serious condition and I don’t mean to suggest anything that diminishes this notion. Recently, I have been hearing more and more about how people with diabetes tend to have more issues with depression. As you will see in the video, I am a very optimistic and “glass half full” type of person, but can understand why depression can be an issue with diabetes.

Disclaimer: if you suffer from depression, you may not want to watch this video. If you choose to watch it, you do so under your own discretion.

My intention is not to upset anyone, but just relay the reality of living with Diabetes. For those with diabetes, I’m sure you can relate. For those that do not have diabetes, it’s information you may not have thought about. Part of the goal for this video is to arm the people that didn’t know so they can be more aware of these issues when dealing with their loved ones. So often I hear and use the phrase “manageable disease”, but reality tells me there will be some consequences down the road. If you watched the video, my goal and what keeps me going is trying to get as close to 80 as possible.

Being more susceptible to depression means you need to equip yourself with an excellent support system and good doctors. Don’t stand for mediocre care by your doctor and take charge of your future. If no one else, you are the best equipped and have the most vested in making sure you get close to 80.

This is the second post where I am attempting to be honest and give some real-life insight where a doctor probably wouldn’t. The first post, discussed the sporadic jump in my blood sugars for no apparent reason. This video will tell you about something that happens every so often when changing an infusion set.

I am not trying to scare you with this post; just trying to tell it like it is in the real world of living with type 1 diabetes.

If you’re an insulin pumper, you will probably have an incident like this, if you haven’t already – it’s just a matter of time. When it does happen, be calm, know that you aren’t alone and to apply pressure for a few minutes.

This post is a spur of the moment post due to the diabetes kicking my rear today. I don’t want to discourage anyone that has diabetes because it’s hard enough to keep good control. My intention with this video is to let others know that you’re not alone. I see a number in the 300 to 400 range all too often. Sometimes the high reading is due to a lack of effort on my part. Other times, it’s really difficult to explain if I can at all. This day is one of those unexplainable times.

Here is a summary of the blood glucose numbers:

Before dinner – 175 BG

Dinner at 50 carbs and gave a bolus for 70 because I was snacking too

After dinner – 44 BG

Correction carbs – 40 carbs

Workout – 30 minutes weights, 40 minutes light cardio (watching Nip/Tuck)

After workout – 468 BG (mommy)

So, this is what a doctor doesn’t tell you:

The Next Day

The next day I woke up at 58 and ate 50 carbs for breakfast with a correct bolus. Just a few hours after that, I tested and was at 367. Baffled, I threw out my insulin vial and started a new one straight from the refrigerator. After changing the insulin, I worked my way down to 135 before dinner. A few times in the past I can only explain high BG readings from a bad insulin vial. What a day – Phew.

Diabetes, in my opinion is 50% physical and 50% mental. Everyone with diabetes will probably have a day like this; just know you’re not alone.

As you can tell from the video, I roll with the New England Patriots. And, no I’m not a bandwagon fan either. I grew up in the Western part of Massachusetts and then lived about five miles from Foxboro, MA (where their stadium is) for about 5 years. I’m also a huge Red Sox and Celtics fan, which has been a very good thing of late.

I hope you like the video!
