IIRC, Outsmart Diabetes is a publication of Rodale Press. Rodale is known for its organic, food-, supplement-, and exercise-based, antipharmaceutical approach to health.

That said, (1) a number of early-stage T2s can improve our health and our clinical outcomes by paying closer attention to diet and exercise, and (2) a number of T1s can benefit from similar dietary modifications -- however, this may not reduce a T2's dependence on oral medications and/or insulin, and it will not obviate a T1's need for exogenous insulin.
