As promised in the first post of this three-part series, below you will find a list of the best books related to diabetes.  This list of books isn’t taken from the most popular or best selling on Amazon.  This list comes directly from the recommendations of real people with diabetes when asked the question: what do you think is the best book about or related to diabetes?

Series:

Below, in no particular order, is the list of the best books related to diabetes by people with diabetes.

  1. The Mind-Body Diabetes Revolution by Richard Surwit
  2. Know Your Numbers, Outlive Your Diabetes by Richard Jackson and Amy Tenderich
  3. Sweet Invisible Body by Lisa Roney
  4. Cheating Destiny: Living with Diabetes by James Hirsch
  5. The Born Again Diabetic by William Dubois
  6. Rufus Comes Home (Children’s book) by Kim Gosselin
  7. Taking Diabetes to School (Children’s Book) by Barbara Mitchell
  8. Think Like A Pancreas by Gary Scheiner

  10. Pumping Insulin by John Walsh and Ruth Roberts
  11. The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes by Gretchen Becker
  12. The First Book for Understanding Diabetes by Peter Chase
  13. Diabetes for Dummies by Alan Rubin

The most popular response was Cheating Destiny.  Also, the information about caffeine in the first post came from The Mind-body Diabetes Revolution, both of which I will probably pick up soon.  Next up on Monday will be the announcement of the winner for the $20 Amazon gift certificate.  Stay tuned and a special thank you goes to everyone who contributed to this giveaway.

Hello,
Since my wife and I have more than 12 diabetes books, we can be obejective when we say that the best book on diabetes is “Death to Diabetes”. It covers everything plus it goes beyond the other books to actually get you “past” the disease — it doesn’t keep you in a box. “Death to Diabetes” explains the exact foods to eat vs. not eat and why. It explains how to exercise the right way. It provides other alternatives to fight the disease including raw juicing and detoxing.
And, the book explains how to improve the health of your eyes, liver, kidneys, heart, etc., and what are the critical blood tests to get.

Over the years I have bought many books about diabetes. But, even though I was eating better and exercising, my doctor was planning to put me on insulin because the higher dosages of Glucophage weren’t working anymore and my average BS was inching up above 130.

However, about 2 years ago my wife bought a diabetes book (titled “Death to Diabetes”) about super foods, raw foods (lots of salads) and lost 27 pounds. She really looks so good now! :-) More importantly, her average BS went down to 87.4 and a1c to 5.3% and her doctor took her off the diabetic medication. But, he said she would be back on medication in a year or so.

When a friend asked her how she lost so much weight and got off her meds, she told her about the “Death to Diabetes” super foods and helped her until her friend had lost 15 pounds and her doctor reduced her meds. Then, my wife helped her aunt, and then a neighbor down the street.

Anyhow, I felt that I had nothing to lose, so, I gave in to my wife and tried this man’s super foods and raw food diet program. My BS average went down to 85.6, my a1c to 4.9%, and I LOST 37 POUNDS in about 5 months [my wife is jealous :-) ]

The author of “Death to Diabetes” (Dwayne Mcculley, http://www.deathtodiabetes.com/) almost DIED from a diabetic coma, his book is well-written and very thorough — he believes in raw food dieting, juicing, etc., and explains step by step what to do. It’s so simple!

The author is an engineer — you can find him on Youtube. He breaks down the medical jargon and explains how diabetes really works, and why some diets won’t work, and why certain foods are necessary for blood glucose stabilization. He also explains all the myths about diabetes.

Bottom line, if you’re struggling with your diabetes, if you’re concerned about going on insulin, just try this man’s program — you got nothing to lose. Once you try his super breakfast, and see your BS go down, you’ll be as happy as me! His story is powerful and inspirational, and it works! And, now my wife says he has a diabetes diet cookbook that we plan to get.

Thanks to this engineer (and my wife of course), I am now a healthier man.

Sincerely,
Richard
p.s. I am so happy to be off the diabetic drugs! AND I FEEL GREAT! So does my wife.
