The lowest I have ever been was 23 about six years ago or so.  What shocks me is that someone was driving with a blood sugar of eleven.  It’s no wonder he was stopped by the police.  I can’t believe they had to taser him though.  Talk about kicking him while he’s down (though I don’t really blame the police)…

This video reminds me of George’s recent vlog, which can be found here that was done in his car.  I think every diabetic who is of driving age has experienced a low at one time or another while driving.  Having diabetes really has taught me to always be prepared.  It’s scary to think this person was driving during a hypoglycemic episode when there are many other vehicles on the road.  Do yourself and everyone a favor and always be prepared when driving.

What do you carry in your vehicle to prevent an episode like the one in the video?

I think there should be a placard or window decal that diabetics can put in view of officers so that they are aware that you might not be resisting after all. I am all for officer safety but you hear of this happening more and more, this is one reason I usually let my wife do the driving. A low blood sugar can come on suddenly and without warning. If the police department can carry breathalyzers for testing for drunks how much more would it cost to equip them with a glucose meter?

I wasn’t expecting that response from you, it was kind of a “SHOCK”.

I think the window decal is a great idea. I think the issue is that the officers didn’t know or recognize the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Their initial reaction was that this person must be drunk or just resisting arrest. At least the decal options would give them a warning and hopefully prevent a person with diabetes getting tasered from low blood sugar.

Another option would be to start tasering yourself every time you either are extremely high or low. This method would probably motivate people with diabetes to keep better control.
