Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of what day of the week it is let alone if that day is set aside for something special. Most of us know about Boss’s Day, Valentines Day, President’s Day, etc., but did you know today (November 14) is World Diabetes Day (WDD)?
"It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in response to the alarming rise in diabetes around the world. In 2007, the United Nations marked the Day for the first time with the passage of the United Nations World Diabetes Day Resolution in December 2006, which made the existing World Diabetes Day an official United Nations World Health Day." What better way to celebrate this day than to give a tax-deductible gift to your favorite Diabetes foundation – 501(C)3.
Two outstanding foundations are:
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)
American Diabetes Association (ADA)
In my opinion, the difference between these two organizations is mainly where the money goes. The JDRF claims to invest more than 85% in research and research-related education. The ADA claims their 2007 expenses are: 28% information, 24% research, 23% advocacy and awareness, 21% fundraising, and 4% mgmt. It seems the ADA is more evenly split between information, research and awareness.
