Below you will find an e-mail that I received from a reader.  I thought there would be a benefit to posting it here on the blog.

Reader E-mail

“I have a 3 year old cousin who was diagnosed with Diabetes when she was 1 1/2…her parents do an awesome job with the task of pricking her poor little fingers so many times a day and keeping her level.  She wears a little pump (with her little fanny pack) and is so good with it.  It is totally normal to her.  Although they have adjusted to living with this, they still have some pretty down moments because their baby has to have this.
Do you have to wear a pump?  Do you have any resources or anything I can offer to them that they may not already know about?  I think they are pretty up on the info out there, but I thought I would ask as I saw you have started your blog.
Thanks!”

My Thoughts

First, my heart goes out to the parents and the child affected by type 1 diabetes at such a young age.  Just the thought of having to do these things to a child that’s my daughter’s age, is heart breaking.

Yes, I do wear a pump (Medtronic Paradigm) and have been for around three years.  I find the pump to give me more freedom while keeping a little bit better control.  I thought it would be the greatest thing ever, but it is a combination of many things that it takes to have excellent control.

When I lived in Boston, I went to the Joslin Diabetes Center, which is world renown for being cutting edge with diabetes management and research.  Here are some very reliable resources:

www.joslin.org (Joslin Diabetes Center)

www.jdrf.org (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

www.diabetes.org (American Diabetes Association)

www.diabetesforum.com (Forum style site where can get input from over 1,300 members)
